Strathfield, a Sydney council in Strathfield, in the burgeoning inner west, needed to establish a sense of place and pride among its residents. There was also the threat of amalgamation from State government.
We built a strategy involving an old media remedy – a monthly 32-page local newspaper reporting all events, including council meetings, completely impartially – and new media in a website, Facebook pages and Twitter. We helped create events like a Food Festival, with an annual Good Food Guide. Over almost six years, we were twice nominated for Newspaper of the Year.
